I hate that when people ask, “What do you do?” people respond with their job.
Adam Grant recommends we, “Stop Asking Kids What They Want to Be When They Grow Up.” I say we stop asking adults “What do you do?”
Howard Thurman said, “Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people that have come alive.” If someone asks “What do you do?” don’t tell them your job title, respond with what makes you come alive.
